Passato ombroso

Passato ombroso Shady Past
per Albert Ayler

Baci pieni di fumo
in risate selvagge come vento
bevuti da un bicchiere frantumato

Pensavi che i binari della A
collegassero tutte le fermate
tutti i segnali lampeggianti di treni
che passano stridenti fino a fermarsi.

Si lasciò tutto dietro
ogni ultima nota e
ricordi segatura

sepolti vivi sotto
mattoni e arenaria
ogni nota rugginosa, ogni tremolo

Il cartello diceva, Under Construction
laddove il motivo si decomponeva
nell’East River

vagabondi con le case allagate saltavano
dal ponte di un patibolo fatiscente
una melodia fluttuava
in un vicolo secondario

un coro di
sacri fantasmi
gemeva in
Re bemolle

For Albert Ayler

Smoke-filled kisses in
wild as wind laughter
Swallowed in shattered glass
You’d think the tracks of the A
connected all the stops
all the flashin’ signs of passing
trains screeching to a halt
He left it all behind
Every last note and
sawdust memory
Buried alive under
brick n’ brownstone
Every rusting note, every tremolo
The sign read, Under Construction
where the tune decomposed
in the East River
Drowned out vagrants leapt
off the bridge of crumbling scaffold
a melody floated
a back alley choir of
holy ghosts
wailed in
D flat
